Our Take

What makes BUCK LAKE GROUP CAMPGROUND special

Buck Lake Group Campground is purpose-built for gatherings in the heart of Florida's Ocala National Forest. Accommodating up to 50 guests, the campground occupies a shaded shoreline position on Buck Lake, making it ideal for family reunions, scout troops, and social clubs looking for a natural setting. A sandy swimming beach provides a hangout spot, and the lake supports fishing for panfish, bass, and crappie from the bank or a small boat. A segment of the 1,400-mile Florida Trail passes nearby for hikers wanting to explore beyond camp. The Ocala forest environment here is classic Florida sand pine scrub — dry, aromatic, and surprisingly wild despite being just a couple hours from Orlando. Facilities include vault toilets, picnic tables, grills, and a central fire ring area. The campground is reservable as a whole unit, so your group gets the entire space. Winter and spring are the most comfortable seasons, with mild temperatures and lower bug pressure. Summer visits are doable but expect heat, humidity, and mosquitoes after dusk.
