Our Take
What makes CLUBHOUSE LAKE special
Clubhouse Lake Campground sits on the shores of its peaceful namesake in the Chippewa National Forest of northern Minnesota, an area defined by dense boreal forest, clear lakes, and a network of canoe routes that stretch for miles. The lake is about 90 feet deep with exceptional water quality, supporting healthy populations of northern pike, largemouth bass, and panfish. A sandy swimming beach provides a natural gathering spot on warm days, and the lake is perfect for canoeing and kayaking — the Rice River Canoe Route begins from waters flowing out of Clubhouse Lake and winds its way to the Big Fork River. The campground is shaded by mature red and white pines typical of the Chippewa, and sites are well-spaced for privacy. Loons call across the lake at twilight, and bald eagles nest in the tall pines nearby. The area is rich with northern Minnesota wildlife including black bear, moose, and timber wolves. Bug spray is essential from June through August, but the reward is long northern days, uncrowded waterways, and the kind of deep-woods quiet that the Boundary Waters region is famous for.
