Our Take

What makes DAVIS CANYON CAMPGROUND special

Sheltered within a scenic canyon corridor in the Bear River Range of southeastern Idaho, Davis Canyon Campground follows the meandering path of St. Charles Creek through a lush landscape of mixed conifer forest, quaking aspen, and wildflower-dotted meadows. The canyon walls rise on either side, framing a narrow ribbon of sky that glows pink and orange at sunset, creating an intimate atmosphere that feels remote yet remains easily accessible from the Bear Lake Valley below. Campers here wake to birdsong and the soft rush of the creek, a natural soundtrack that invites slow mornings and unhurried days. Fishing for brook and cutthroat trout is a favorite activity, with productive pools and riffles just steps from most sites. Hikers can follow canyon trails that connect to the broader Caribou National Forest trail system, winding through stands of subalpine fir to ridgetop viewpoints. Summer offers the longest and most comfortable season, with daytime highs that rarely feel oppressive thanks to the canyon's natural shade and elevation. September and October reward visitors with a dazzling golden aspen show. Davis Canyon Campground appeals to nature lovers who prize quiet over spectacle, making it an excellent choice for couples, small families, photographers, and anyone drawn to the peaceful rhythm of a forested canyon stream.
