Our Take

What makes Juniper Campground (Quemado Lake) special

Juniper Campground is the most popular camp on Quemado Lake for good reason — it combines easy lake access, reliable shade, and proper amenities in a setting that still feels wonderfully remote. With 36 sites including electric RV hookups with 30-amp service and dedicated tent areas, it accommodates everything from fully outfitted rigs to minimalist setups. The campground sits within the Quemado Ranger District of the Gila National Forest, where juniper woodlands give way to open meadows and the lake itself shimmers against a backdrop of high-desert mesas. Trout fishing is the main event, especially in spring and fall when stocked rainbows are active and the weather cooperates beautifully. Water is available on-site, which is a genuine luxury at this elevation and remoteness. Summer monsoons bring afternoon thunderstorms that clear into spectacular evenings. Stock up in Quemado on your way in, because once you are here, leaving feels like a waste of good lake time. Juniper is perfect for RV anglers, tent-camping families, and anyone wanting the most comfortable base camp for exploring Quemado Lake.
