Our Take
What makes Leroys Ferry Campground special
Leroys Ferry Campground is a compact, no-frills fishing camp on the shores of Thurmond Lake in South Carolina, offering just 10 standard sites that attract a devoted crowd of anglers who know these waters well. The lake's fishery is the undeniable centerpiece — bass, bream, crappie, and catfish all thrive here, and the campground's boat ramp puts you on productive water within minutes of launching. Beyond fishing, the open lake is excellent for water skiing, tubing, and swimming on hot summer days. The small site count keeps things genuinely peaceful, a welcome contrast to the larger, busier Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Thurmond Lake. Spring through fall is the active season, with March through May offering the best bass fishing as fish move shallow to spawn. Secure your site early on tournament weekends when anglers fill every available spot. Leroys Ferry is tailored for dedicated anglers, small families who love lake life, and boaters seeking a quiet, affordable launch point on one of the Southeast's best fishing lakes.
