Our Take
What makes Little Rock Campground special
Tucked into the walls of Huntington Canyon along one of Utah's most celebrated scenic byways, Little Rock Campground offers the kind of mountain retreat that stays with you long after you leave. Highway 31 winds through this stretch of the Manti-La Sal National Forest like a ribbon draped over the shoulders of the Wasatch Plateau, and Little Rock sits right in the heart of it all, shaded by towering conifers with Huntington Creek murmuring nearby. The campground is modest in size, which only adds to its charm. Sites are well-spaced and nestled among the trees, giving each one a sense of privacy that larger campgrounds simply cannot match. Anglers will find excellent trout fishing in the creek, while hikers can explore a network of trails that fan out into the surrounding high country. Wildlife sightings are common here, from mule deer browsing at dusk to the occasional moose wandering through camp. Summer and early fall are the prime seasons, with wildflowers carpeting the canyon floor from late June through July. Nights are cool even in midsummer at this elevation, so pack layers. Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis and tend to fill up on summer weekends, so arriving by Thursday afternoon is a smart move. This is Utah canyon country at its most peaceful.
