Our Take

What makes MCGILL CAMPGROUND AND GROUP CAMPGROUND special

Tucked away in a rugged corner of the backcountry, McGill Campground and Group Campground rewards those willing to venture off the beaten path with sweeping panoramas of layered mountain ridges and deep, forested valleys. This is a campground for people who crave solitude and big sky views without the crowds that plague more accessible destinations. With 73 sites spread across individual and group areas, McGill offers surprising flexibility for such a remote location. Individual sites are well-spaced among the trees, providing genuine privacy, while the group areas make this an excellent pick for scout troops, family reunions, or outdoor clubs looking for an unforgettable gathering spot. Most sites are first-come, first-served, though group reservations should be secured well in advance during peak months. Summer is the prime season here, with July and August offering the warmest days and the clearest views. Early risers will catch golden light spilling across the valleys, and the night sky is nothing short of spectacular, far from any city glow. Bring layers, though, as mountain evenings cool down quickly even in midsummer. Hikers and wildlife watchers will find plenty to explore in the surrounding terrain, from alpine meadows bursting with wildflowers to ridgeline trails that feel like they sit on top of the world.
