Our Take
What makes MUSTANG RIDGE CAMPGROUND special
Set atop a high-desert bluff at 6,300 feet, Mustang Ridge Campground offers a perspective of Flaming Gorge Reservoir that most visitors never see. The 69 sites are arranged along the rim with dramatic overlooks where the land drops away to reveal deep blue water carved into layers of ancient red and tan sandstone. It feels more like the Southwest than what most people picture when they think of Utah camping, and that is part of its charm. Boat access is available via a nearby ramp, connecting you to some of the best kokanee salmon and lake trout fishing in the region. Back on dry land, the open terrain invites easy hikes through sage and juniper, where pronghorn antelope and mule deer are common company. Summer days are warm and bright, tempered by a steady breeze off the water, and the nights cool down beautifully for sleeping under a blanket of stars. The campground is close enough to Manila for supply runs, yet remote enough to feel like genuine backcountry. If you have ever wanted a campsite with a million-dollar view and the room to breathe, Mustang Ridge delivers without pretense.
