Our Take

What makes Northshore Campground - Loon Lake (CA) special

Northshore Campground on Loon Lake is the kind of Sierra Nevada spot that keeps people coming back summer after summer. Perched 23 miles east of Placerville off Highway 50, the 25 RV and standard sites sit among granite boulders and mixed conifers with the crystal-clear lake just a short stroll away. A boat ramp right at Loon Lake means you can have a kayak, canoe, or small motorboat on the water within minutes of arriving. Swimming is superb in the granite-lined shallows, and anglers pull trout from the deeper sections throughout the season. July and August offer the warmest water temperatures, but June and September reward visitors with fewer neighbors and cooler mornings. Sites accommodate both RVs and tent setups, though the roads can be narrow, so measure your rig before committing. Bring layers — elevation keeps nights brisk. Northshore is ideal for boating families, fishing enthusiasts, and anyone who wants a classic high-Sierra lake camp with solid access and stunning scenery.
