Our Take
What makes PEACE VALLEY CAMPGROUND special
Tucked away 27 miles north of Garden Valley in the rugged heart of Idaho's Boise National Forest, Peace Valley Campground sits at a comfortable 4,591 feet of elevation where ponderosa pines give way to wildflower meadows and the air carries the clean scent of high-country sage. This is a campground built for those who like their solitude earned. The surrounding terrain is a paradise for motorcyclists navigating winding forest roads, anglers casting into nearby mountain streams, and hikers looking to stretch their legs on trails that climb through some of Idaho's most underappreciated backcountry. The campground offers a modest collection of sites, each spaced generously enough to preserve that feeling of genuine seclusion. Facilities are basic but well-maintained, with vault toilets and fire rings at every site. Water availability can vary by season, so plan to bring your own supply. The access road is unpaved and can be rough, making this a better fit for trucks, SUVs, and adventure-minded travelers than for large motorhomes. Summer and early fall are the prime seasons here, with July and August bringing warm days and cool mountain nights perfect for campfire evenings. Snow can linger well into June at this elevation. Reservations are not always required, but checking availability ahead of time is wise during peak weekends. Peace Valley rewards those willing to venture off the beaten path with a quiet, unhurried camping experience that feels worlds away from the crowds.
