Our Take

What makes Pleasant Valley Pit Campground special

Pleasant Valley Pit Campground is camping stripped down to its essentials -- and priced to match. At just five dollars a night with no reservations required, this 78-site campground is the kind of no-frills stop that road-trippers and budget-minded adventurers appreciate most. Pull in, pick a spot, drop a few dollars in the fee envelope, and you are home. The campground accommodates both tents and RVs up to 30 feet, offering basic amenities like vault toilets and picnic tables without the extras that drive prices up elsewhere. What it lacks in polish it makes up for in accessibility and elbow room -- with 75-plus sites spread across open terrain, you rarely feel crowded even on busy weekends. The setting is honest high-desert country, wide open and quietly beautiful in the way that empty Western landscapes tend to be. Stars fill the sky from horizon to horizon once the sun drops, and the silence is the kind you can feel in your chest. Pleasant Valley Pit is not trying to be a resort, and that is exactly the point. It is a place to rest, regroup, and remember that a good campsite does not need to cost a fortune -- just a flat spot, a fire ring, and enough sky overhead to make the drive worthwhile.
