Our Take

What makes POINT SUPREME CAMPGROUND special

Perched at a breathtaking 10,000 feet along the rim of Cedar Breaks National Monument, Point Supreme Campground offers one of the most dramatic overnight settings in all of southern Utah. The campground sits at the edge of a vast natural amphitheater of eroded limestone, where hoodoos and spires painted in shades of rust, ochre, and violet stretch out beneath you like a geological canvas. Ancient bristlecone pines frame the campsites, and the thin mountain air carries a crispness that makes every morning feel like a gift. The season here is short but unforgettable. Snow keeps the monument closed until mid-June, and the first storms typically return by late September, giving visitors roughly three months to enjoy this high-altitude retreat. Ranger-led programs bring the geology and ecology to life, while hiking trails along the rim deliver panoramic views that rival anything in the region. Wildflower meadows explode with color through July and August, drawing photographers and nature lovers alike. Point Supreme is ideal for adventurers who want solitude without sacrificing spectacle. Families, couples, and solo travelers who appreciate cool summer nights and stargazing at elevation will find this campground deeply rewarding. Just be prepared for the altitude and pack layers — temperatures can dip sharply after sunset even in midsummer.
