Our Take

What makes Redondo Campground special

Redondo Campground sits in a landscape that feels like the Southwest at its most gracious. Tall Ponderosa pines rise from meadows of native grass and wildflowers in the Jemez National Recreation Area, creating a setting that is equal parts forest and open sky. The air carries the warm, vanilla scent of sun-heated pine bark, and the light here has a golden quality that photographers and painters have chased through these mountains for generations. With 62 sites spread through this gentle terrain, Redondo offers a relaxed, unhurried camping experience in one of New Mexico's most beloved recreation areas. The blend of shaded forest and open meadow means you can choose a site that suits your preference, whether you want deep tree cover or a wider view of the surrounding hills. The campground sits at elevation, so even midsummer nights bring a welcome coolness that makes sleeping under the stars a genuine pleasure. The Jemez region is rich with things to explore. Natural hot springs bubble up from the volcanic landscape, ancient Pueblo ruins tell stories stretching back centuries, and the Valles Caldera National Preserve offers some of the most spectacular elk viewing in the American West. Redondo Campground places you at the heart of it all, in a place where the forest floor is soft, the meadows glow in the afternoon light, and the mountains remind you why New Mexico calls itself the Land of Enchantment.
