Our Take
What makes Station Camp Campground special
Station Camp Campground in Tennessee's Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is built for adventure on multiple fronts. The 24 electric sites serve as a proper basecamp for equestrians, mountain bikers, and river runners alike, with direct trail access that puts you in the saddle or on the water without a long drive to a trailhead. The horse camp facilities are well-maintained, and the trail network winds through sandstone arches, hemlock-shaded gorges, and ridgetop overlooks that make the Cumberland Plateau one of the most underrated landscapes in the East. The Big South Fork River itself offers whitewater paddling in spring and calmer float trips through summer. Fall is arguably the best season, when the hardwood canopy erupts in color and the trails are firm and fast. Bring bug spray in summer and layers in shoulder seasons. This campground is tailor-made for equestrians who want electric hookups, mountain bikers seeking technical singletrack, and families who like mixing river days with trail rides.
