Our Take

What makes Beard's Lake Park special

Beard's Lake Park is a hidden gem tucked about 12 miles northeast of Ashdown, Arkansas, accessible off the River Run East route along Highway 32. Part of the broader Millwood Lake area, this peaceful park sits in a landscape shaped by bottomland hardwoods and quiet backwaters that attract an impressive diversity of fish and waterfowl. Anglers come for bass, crappie, and bream in the sheltered coves, while duck hunters consider the surrounding bottomlands some of the most productive in the region during fall and winter seasons. Spring is lovely too, with migrating songbirds and mild temperatures perfect for bank fishing or just sitting lakeside with a book. Facilities are modest, so bring everything you need and plan on a self-sufficient stay. The unhurried pace here is the whole point — this is not a place for jet skis and loud music. Beard's Lake Park is made for patient anglers, waterfowl hunters, birdwatchers, and anyone who finds their best rest in genuinely quiet, nature-rich surroundings.
