Our Take
What makes Blue Ridge Park special
Blue Ridge Park occupies a scenic stretch on the north end of Dierks Lake in southwest Arkansas, where flooded timberlands meet the Saline River and create a landscape unlike anything else in the region. The standing timber beneath the water draws fish like a magnet, making this a prime destination for crappie, bass, and catfish anglers who know that structure is everything. Spring and fall are the standout seasons — spring brings excellent spawning runs and blooming dogwoods, while fall delivers comfortable temperatures and world-class duck hunting in the nearby Howard County Wildlife Management Area. The park is wonderfully low-key, with enough solitude to hear owls calling at dusk. Bring a boat if you have one, as the best fishing spots are accessible from the water. Cell service is spotty, so plan to disconnect. Blue Ridge Park is best for anglers chasing structure-oriented fish, waterfowl hunters during fall migration, and outdoors lovers who appreciate a quiet, off-the-beaten-path Arkansas lakeside camp.
