Our Take
What makes Charbonneau Park and Campground special
Recognized as a Top 100 Family Campground, Charbonneau Park and Campground sits along the shores of Lake Sacajawea in southeastern Washington, where the Snake and Columbia rivers converge in a landscape steeped in the history of the Lewis and Clark expedition. The park carries the name of Toussaint Charbonneau, the French-Canadian fur trader who traveled with the Corps of Discovery, and the history of that journey is woven into the character of this place. The campground is generous and well-maintained, with large sites shaded by mature trees and easy access to the waterfront. Lake Sacajawea provides calm, warm waters ideal for swimming, boating, and fishing, while the surrounding parkland includes playgrounds, sports courts, and open green spaces that make it a natural destination for families with children of all ages. A paved trail system invites evening walks and bike rides along the water. Summer is the undisputed peak season here, with long, sunny eastern Washington days and water temperatures that actually invite you in. Spring and early fall extend the season nicely for those who prefer quieter campsites and cooler weather for hiking and fishing. Charbonneau Park is built for families. Its combination of water recreation, historical significance, well-kept facilities, and room to play makes it one of the most complete family camping experiences in the Pacific Northwest.
