Our Take
What makes CUMBERLAND POINT CAMPGROUND special
Stretched along the shores of Lake Cumberland in southern Kentucky, Cumberland Point Campground offers front-row access to one of the largest man-made lakes east of the Mississippi River. With over 1,200 miles of shoreline and deep, clear water backed by forested hillsides, Lake Cumberland is a boater's and angler's paradise, and this campground puts you right in the middle of it all. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Cumberland Point features well-spaced sites with electric and water hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings, catering to both RV travelers and tent campers. The campground includes modern restrooms with showers, a convenient boat launch, and a swimming beach that makes hot summer days considerably more enjoyable. Lake Cumberland is renowned for its striped bass and walleye fishing, and the marina services nearby make it easy to rent boats or stock up on tackle. Beyond the water, the surrounding Daniel Boone National Forest landscape offers hiking trails through dense hardwood forest and along limestone bluffs with expansive lake views. The campground is open seasonally, typically from May through September, and reservations are highly recommended for the busy summer season, especially holiday weekends when the lake draws large crowds. Late spring and early fall provide a quieter experience with pleasant temperatures and stunning reflections of turning leaves on the water. For a classic southern Kentucky lake vacation, Cumberland Point is hard to beat.
