Our Take

What makes KENDALL CAMPGROUND special

Kendall Campground is perched in a scenic stretch of southern Kentucky just below Wolf Creek Dam, where Lake Cumberland's tailwaters flow into a cool, clear ribbon of the Cumberland River. The setting is dramatic by Kentucky standards, with steep limestone bluffs, dense hardwood forests, and water so clear you can see the bottom from shore. The town of Jamestown is nearby, offering basic supplies and a small-town welcome. The campground features approximately 80 sites spread across a mix of shaded loops and open areas, with electric and water hookups available at most locations. The sites are well-spaced and maintained, giving each camper a comfortable amount of elbow room. Below the dam, the tailwaters produce exceptional trout fishing, including rainbow and brown trout that thrive in the cold discharge. A boat ramp and fishing pier make access easy, and the lake itself offers miles of open water for boating, skiing, and swimming. Spring and fall are ideal for visiting, with mild temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer brings families in droves, so reservations are essential from June through August. The tailwater fishing remains productive even in winter, making this a surprisingly good cold-weather destination for dedicated anglers. Kendall Campground offers a unique two-for-one experience: the vast recreational playground of Lake Cumberland above the dam and world-class trout water below it.
