Our Take

What makes Long Branch Campground special

Long Branch Campground sits on the southern shore of Enid Lake in north-central Mississippi, a quiet pocket of shade trees and open water that feels miles removed from the busy corridors of the Delta. The thirteen no-hookup sites are spread along a gentle rise above the lakeshore, each with a picnic table and fire ring, and most offering partial views of the reservoir through the trees. This is a place for simple pleasures: casting a line for crappie and bass at dawn, watching herons work the shallows, and letting a campfire burn down to coals under a wide southern sky. Because there are no utility connections, Long Branch attracts campers who prefer a quieter, more self-sufficient experience. Bring your own water, pack a cooler, and plan to disconnect. A vault toilet is provided, but that is about it for facilities. The payoff is a lakeside setting with very little competition for space. Enid Lake itself is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers impoundment known for solid fishing and easy-access boat ramps nearby. Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons, with mild temperatures and lower humidity than the sweltering Mississippi summer. Sites are first-come, first-served and seldom full, making Long Branch a reliable option for last-minute getaways when you just need a night under the stars.
