Our Take
What makes Plum Point Campground special
Tucked along the north shore of Enid Lake in the rolling hill country of northern Mississippi, Plum Point Campground is a quiet retreat for anglers, paddlers, and anyone looking to slow down for a few days. The lake, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on Yocona River, stretches wide and blue against a backdrop of hardwood-dotted ridges, offering excellent crappie, bass, and catfish fishing nearly year-round. With just eight sites and no utility hookups, Plum Point keeps things refreshingly simple. This is tent camping and self-contained RV territory, the kind of place where the evening soundtrack is tree frogs and lapping water rather than generators. A boat ramp nearby makes it easy to get on the lake at first light, and the surrounding countryside is laced with back roads perfect for an afternoon drive. Spring and fall are the sweet spots here. Mississippi summers bring serious heat and humidity, while winter can be damp and chilly. March through May and September through November strike the ideal balance of mild temperatures and manageable crowds. Because the campground is small and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, weekday arrivals give you the best shot at snagging a prime waterside spot. If you are heading through the north Mississippi hills and want a no-frills lakeside night under the stars, Plum Point delivers.
