Our Take

What makes Moqui Group Campground special

Moqui Group Campground is purpose-built for large gatherings in the cool ponderosa forests of northern Arizona. Perched at nearly 7,000 feet near Happy Jack, the three spacious group sites each accommodate 50-plus people, making this a go-to destination for family reunions, scout troops, and outdoor clubs. The mixed forest of ponderosa pine, Gambel oak, and quivering aspen creates a shaded, parklike setting that feels miles from the desert heat below. Each site comes equipped with large fire pits and vault toilets, and drinking water is available on-site — a genuine luxury at this elevation. Summer and early fall are the prime seasons, when daytime temperatures hover in the pleasant 70s and 80s while Phoenix bakes far below. Reserve well in advance for holiday weekends, and bring layers for chilly mountain nights. Moqui is the ideal pick for organized groups who want a dedicated, well-maintained space to gather outdoors without competing for individual sites across a crowded campground.
