Rising to an elevation of 10,781 feet, the active volcano from which the forest takes its name is perpetually snow-capped and mantled with an extensive network of creeping glaciers. Mt. Baker's summit, Grant Peak, is actually a 1,300-foot-deep mound of ice, which hides a massive volcanic crater. contact_info For facility specific information, please call (530) 932-0242. Our Take

What makes Panorama Point Campground special

Set along the western shore of Baker Lake in Washington's Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, Panorama Point Campground lives up to its name with sweeping views of the turquoise glacial lake and the snow-draped volcanic cone of Mount Baker rising beyond. The 14 sites here are intimate and well-spaced, offering a quieter alternative to the larger campgrounds in the Baker Lake basin. Towering Douglas firs and western red cedars frame each site, and the lakeshore is just steps away. Baker Lake is a paddler's paradise, with calm morning waters ideal for kayaking and canoeing. Anglers come for the sockeye salmon, rainbow trout, and Dolly Varden that inhabit the cold, glacier-fed waters. Several trails depart from the area, including paths that wind through old-growth forest and along creeks feeding the lake. On clear days, the view from camp across the water to Mount Baker is nothing short of spectacular. With only 14 sites, Panorama Point fills quickly during summer weekends, so advance reservations are strongly recommended from July through early September. The campground is best suited for tents and smaller camping vehicles. Late summer is the sweet spot, when wildfire smoke tends to be minimal and the lake warms enough for a refreshing swim. Bring layers regardless, as mountain evenings cool down quickly.
