Our Take

What makes PINE LAKE CAMPGROUND special

Nestled beside scenic Pine Lake on the Colorado Plateau at 8,100 feet, Pine Lake Campground is a cool, forested oasis in the high country above Cedar City, Utah. The 32 well-shaded sites sit among ponderosa pine, spruce, and aspen, offering a welcome contrast to the red-rock desert just a short drive below. The small lake is perfect for canoeing, kayaking, and float-tube fishing, with stocked rainbow trout providing steady action for anglers of all ages. A gentle trail loops around the lakeshore, making for an easy morning walk where you might spot great blue herons, ospreys, or a beaver going about its business near the dam. The campground's proximity to Cedar Breaks National Monument and the Markagunt Plateau means world-class hiking and scenic driving are just minutes away, and in autumn the aspen groves erupt in gold, creating one of southern Utah's most underrated fall color displays. Elevation keeps summer temperatures in the pleasant seventies during the day, with nights dipping cool enough to warrant a good sleeping bag. For visitors exploring Bryce Canyon, Zion, or Cedar Breaks, Pine Lake offers a peaceful, less-crowded alternative to the parks' own campgrounds with its own quiet brand of beauty.
