Our Take
What makes ROLLWAYS CAMPGROUND special
Standing as one of the oldest developed campgrounds in the Huron National Forest with roots stretching back to 1909, Rollways Campground carries a rich legacy of outdoor recreation along Michigan's legendary AuSable River. The campground takes its name from the log rollways once used by lumberjacks to send timber downstream, and today that same river draws a devoted following of paddlers, fly anglers, and nature lovers. Sites are spread beneath a canopy of hardwoods and conifers, with many offering direct views of the river's dark, tannin-stained current. Canoeing and kayaking the AuSable is a quintessential Michigan experience, with gentle stretches perfect for beginners and more spirited sections for seasoned paddlers. Trout fishing here is world-class, drawing anglers from across the Midwest who wade the cool shallows in pursuit of brown and brook trout. Summer brings warm days and firefly-lit evenings, while autumn transforms the forest into a mosaic of red, orange, and gold. Rollways is a natural fit for paddling enthusiasts, fishing devotees, history buffs, and families who appreciate a campground where the rhythm of the river sets the pace for every day.
