Our Take
What makes Upper Stamp Creek Campground special
Upper Stamp Creek Campground sits on a quiet arm of Allatoona Lake in the wooded hills northwest of Atlanta, near the small community of White, Georgia. Of the several Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds ringing the lake, Upper Stamp Creek is one of the more peaceful options, tucked away from the busier recreation areas and surrounded by a thick canopy of pine and hardwood forest. The campground features approximately 25 sites, making it one of the smaller and more intimate options on Allatoona Lake. Sites come with electric and water hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, and access to clean restrooms with showers. The smaller footprint means a quieter atmosphere and a stronger sense of seclusion, especially during the week. A boat ramp nearby connects campers to the full expanse of Allatoona's 12,000 acres, where spotted bass, striped bass, and catfish are the primary catches. The coves around Stamp Creek are particularly scenic and well-suited to kayaking. Spring and fall are the ideal seasons, with mild temperatures and beautiful color in the surrounding forest. Summer weekends do attract visitors, but the campground's smaller size means it often feels less hectic than its neighbors. Reservations are recommended during peak months. For campers seeking a low-key Georgia lake experience away from the crowds, Upper Stamp Creek is a reliable and rewarding choice that punches well above its modest profile.
