Our Take

What makes Brush Creek Public Use Area special

Brush Creek Public Use Area delivers something unexpected just ten minutes from downtown Tulsa: a genuinely enjoyable outdoor escape sitting below Keystone Dam. The setup here goes well beyond basic camping, with horseshoe pits, basketball and volleyball courts, a fitness trail, and a dedicated fishing berm reached via a pedestrian bridge over the creek. It is the kind of place where families can spend a full weekend without anyone complaining about being bored. The fishing is the headliner — the tailwaters below the dam produce excellent catches, and that dedicated berm gives anglers comfortable, accessible casting room. Spring and fall offer the most pleasant weather, as Oklahoma summers can push triple digits. The proximity to Sand Springs and Tulsa means supply runs are quick and easy if you forget something. Do not skip the fitness trail, which is surprisingly well-maintained. Brush Creek is ideal for Tulsa-area families wanting a quick outdoor weekend, casual anglers, and active groups who need more than just a campfire to stay entertained.
