Our Take
What makes McFadden Cove special
McFadden Cove is a small, no-nonsense campground on Kaw Lake in north-central Oklahoma that punches well above its weight for anglers. Situated near the dam and Hideaway Marina, this spot puts you in prime position for some of the best striped bass fishing in the state, along with reliable catfish and crappie action throughout the year. The campground's compact size means it never feels hectic, and the proximity to the marina gives you easy access to boat rentals, bait, and supplies. Kaw Lake itself is a scenic reservoir surrounded by cross-timbers woodland and prairie, with bald eagles commonly spotted during winter months. Spring and fall deliver the best fishing and most comfortable camping weather, while summer brings warmer water and active stripers at dawn and dusk. Arrive early on spring weekends when the crappie run draws crowds, and bring your own shade since trees can be sparse at some sites. McFadden Cove is tailor-made for fishing enthusiasts, small groups, and Oklahoma weekenders seeking a laid-back lakeside camp with serious angling potential.
