Our Take
What makes Hobo Campground special
Hobo Campground delivers one of the Kern River Valley's most charming tent camping experiences. Tucked along the Lower Kern River at just 2,290 feet in Sequoia National Forest, its 25 walk-to sites sit beneath a lush riparian canopy of cottonwoods and willows that provide welcome shade during warm valley summers. The river runs right through your backyard here, perfect for wading, swimming in natural pools, and listening to the current from your sleeping bag. Miracle Hot Springs is a short drive away, adding a soak-and-camp combination that is hard to beat. Spring and early fall are the prime seasons, when temperatures are comfortable and the river flows strong but manageable. The walk-to format keeps things quiet and attracts campers who prefer hauling gear a short distance over parking next to their tent. Kernville, with restaurants and outfitters, is just minutes away for supplies. Hobo is ideal for couples, solo adventurers, and small groups who love river camping with character and do not need hookups or RV access.
