Our Take
What makes Mill Creek (AR) special
Mill Creek campground sits along a wooded arm of Greers Ferry Lake near Higden, Arkansas, where the Ozark Mountains slope down to meet some of the clearest lake water in the mid-South. The setting here is quintessential Ozarks — tall pines and hardwoods shade the sites while the lake glimmers through the trees. Fishing is exceptional, with spotted bass, largemouth, and hefty stripers all within casting distance of the campground. A nearby boat ramp makes it easy to explore the lake's 340 miles of shoreline, and hiking trails through the surrounding hills offer solid leg-stretching opportunities. The camping season runs May through September, but the real secret is early June before school lets out — warm enough to swim but not yet packed. Bring firewood from home or buy it locally, as gathering deadfall is restricted. Mill Creek appeals most to boating families, bass anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts who want a well-rounded Ozark lake vacation with convenient amenities and genuine natural beauty.
