Our Take
What makes Silver Springs Campground special
Silver Springs Campground occupies a prime stretch of riverfront along the White River in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, just outside the northern entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. Old-growth conifers tower overhead, their massive trunks draped in moss, while the glacier-fed White River rushes past camp with a steady, soothing roar. On clear days, the immense snow-clad dome of Mount Rainier dominates the southern skyline in a way that never quite loses its power to stop you mid-sentence. The location is hard to beat for both convenience and natural beauty. The Sunrise area of Mount Rainier, widely considered the park's most spectacular viewpoint, is just a short drive up the road. Hiking options range from easy riverside strolls to strenuous climbs toward subalpine meadows bursting with wildflowers in July and August. The White River itself draws anglers and provides excellent spots for wading and nature photography. Sites are nestled among the trees and offer a good balance of privacy and accessibility, accommodating tents and smaller RVs. The campground is open seasonally, generally from late May through September, and reservations are highly recommended for weekends throughout the summer. Weekday visits tend to be quieter and easier to secure. The gateway towns of Enumclaw and Greenwater provide groceries, fuel, and dining. For campers who want to fall asleep to the sound of a mountain river and wake up to a view of one of the continent's great volcanoes, Silver Springs is an exceptional choice.
