Our Take

What makes Yosemite Creek Campground special

If you have ever wished you could find a campground in Yosemite that feels truly off the beaten path, Yosemite Creek Campground might be exactly what you are looking for. Reaching it requires a commitment: a five-mile drive down a single-lane dirt road that immediately filters out casual visitors and leaves you with a campground that feels refreshingly uncrowded. With 76 sites and a strict no-motorhomes, no-trailers policy, the atmosphere here leans decidedly toward tent camping purists and adventurers who do not mind trading convenience for solitude. The payoff is enormous. Yosemite Creek runs through the area, providing a soothing soundtrack and a place to cool off on warm afternoons. The surrounding forest is dense and beautiful, and the campground offers access to some of the park's most rewarding and least congested hiking. You are also within striking distance of Yosemite Creek itself as it makes its dramatic plunge over the north rim of Yosemite Valley. The rustic setting means fewer amenities, but that is precisely the point. This is camping distilled to its essentials: a tent, a campfire, towering pines, and the kind of quiet that recharges something deep inside you.
