Our Take
What makes HOLLAND LAKE CAMPGROUND special
Holland Lake Campground occupies one of the most scenic lakeside settings in northwest Montana's Swan Valley. Tucked within the Flathead National Forest, the 43-site campground sits directly on Holland Lake's shoreline, where morning mist rolls off the water against a backdrop of the Swan Range peaks. The 1.5-mile trail to Holland Falls — a thundering 40-foot cascade fed by snowmelt from the Bob Marshall Wilderness — starts right from camp. Paddlers can launch canoes or kayaks from the beach and explore the lake's clear alpine waters, while anglers target cutthroat and rainbow trout. With 24 reservable sites and 14 walk-up spots, the campground fills fast on summer weekends, so midweek visits reward you with more solitude. The camp's group site accommodates larger gatherings up to 75 people. Wildlife sightings are common: loons call at dusk, osprey patrol the lake, and the occasional black bear passes through. Open roughly late May through September, Holland Lake is the kind of place where camp chairs stay parked lakeside all day.
