Our Take
What makes Yellow Pine Campground (WY) special
Yellow Pine Campground earns its name honestly. Set within a handsome stand of mixed conifers and shimmering aspen near Laramie, Wyoming, this 19-site loop in the Medicine Bow National Forest feels like a proper mountain camp from the moment you arrive. What sets Yellow Pine apart from its neighbors is the presence of stock corrals, making it one of the few campgrounds in the area that genuinely welcomes equestrian visitors alongside traditional campers. If you have ever wanted to ride the high-country trails of southern Wyoming from a comfortable base camp, this is your spot. The sites are spacious enough to accommodate horse trailers, yet the campground never loses its intimate, wooded character. Hikers and mountain bikers will find plenty of trail options radiating outward into the surrounding forest, and wildlife sightings -- mule deer, elk, the occasional moose -- are a regular bonus. Evenings cool down fast at elevation, turning campfire time into a cherished ritual rather than an afterthought. Yellow Pine is the kind of place that rewards both first-timers exploring the Medicine Bow and seasoned visitors who keep coming back because the mix of forest, meadow, and mountain simply works.
